Quartet Press is the love child of Kassia Krozser (renowned proprietress of BookSquare.com); one Kirk Biglione (the techno-wizard behind the Quartet curtain, who in his spare time co-authors the fantastic Medialoper.com); Kat Meyer (Quartet’s Chief Marketeer and the wearied-but-optimistic veteran of more than a few regional, academic and trade book publishers); and Don Linn, most recently senior v-p and publisher of Taunton Press, whose talents are simply too many to mention.
This not-so-obvious, but not-necessarily-unlikely, bookish “quartet” came together over a singular shared desire: to build a high-quality, community-centric digital publishing house.
It’s a familiar story: Publishing boy meets publishing boy meets publishing girl meets publishing girl. We all had one thing in common: the sad state of book publishing affairs, you see, was getting each of us more than a little down in the dumps. So, spurred on by our friends in the bookish community, we put our four heads together and pondered what we could do to make the bookish world a better place. “We have the technology,” we proclaimed in unison, “We can rebuild it…”
What could possibly be better than this fantastic foursome setting out together to tilt at publishing windmills? Before such a question could even begin to leave our collective lips, along came digital diva Angela James, formerly of Samhain — graciously agreeing to join us in our endeavor and sign aboard as Quartet’s editorial director extraordinaire.
So, dear readers — we’re thrilled to say: publishing is back — its name is Quartet Press. And yes, my friends — it is better than ever.
At Quartet, readers are in for more than just an entertaining read. We’re a little different (in all the best ways), and we don’t always do things “by the book” (so to speak). When it comes to our publishing program, it’s all about the reader — from beginning to end and everything in between. At Quartet, our readers come first.
“Quench Romance”- Quartet’s Oh-So-Refreshing Reads!
What are we planning for our soon-to-be readers, you ask?
Good question!
We’ll be kicking things off with our romance imprint: QUENCH ROMANCE! Because, like the song says: “what the world needs now is love, sweet love.” Quench Romance titles will debut in January 2010 and will cover all romance genres, but will include two succulent sub-imprints: Quench Classics, focused on reissues of classic romance titles; and a romance imprint focused on the unusual-steampunk, space cowboys, cyberpunk, science fiction, fantasy, urban fantasy, and new twists on classic paranormal themes. With Quench Romance, it’s our goal to take romantic storytelling to the next level–and we want you all there every step of the way.
Quartet will eventually expand to other genres such as mysteries and science fiction – heck we may even publish literary fiction and nonfiction if the right work comes our way. But whatever we may publish, our publishing model is decidedly “e-centric!” Ebooks are our focus and our ebooks will be available in all major ebook formats through all major and specialty online ebook retailers, AS WELL AS through Quartet’s own “All DRM-FREE, ALL THE TIME” website, QuartetPress.com (with fabulous, beautiful, hassle free shopping coming very soon!)
Because we love making readers happy no matter what their format of choice, Quartet’s titles will also be available as Print-on-Demand paperback editions at Amazon.com and via Espresso Machines. And, for titles that breakout, Quartet will be making concerted efforts to re-sell print rights to larger, traditional houses.
